The next morning we got up and started to walk along the coast. The walk was really cool and we found out that all of the trees were underwater when we arrived at the beach at high tide the previous night. We got to climb up the Hunting Island Lighthouse and see the state park.

We stopped in a small town called Edisto and camped for the night. The drive that day was really nice and scenic. Plus we even got to stop for some boiled peanuts and Pepsi-Cola, a southeastern delicacy. The campground we found wasn’t as nice as the beach one the night before, but we got to see the other side of SC, marsh.

We woke up the next morning to a good sense of knowing that we had a big day ahead of us. We had made it far enough already and we were positive that we would make it to Charleston today.
When we rode into town it was still morning and so the sky was gray, but the forecast said it was to be 80 degrees or higher, so we were riding on that. We found the ferry out to Fort Sumter by noon and we asked the tour guide where to eat lunch and she recommended a really good deli and we enjoyed it very much.
We returned to the dock of Fort Sumter and we were worried because the day was not shaping up to be a good one for being outside all day.
We got onto the ferry and we were ready to go.
When we got to the fort, it was so windy that if it was weather like that in Estes, it would be indoor recess all day! We walked around outside looking at the model cannons, the old bricks, and the crushed oyster shells that held the walls together until we just about froze.
We went into what Mom thought was the museum, when really it was only the gift shop; although she didn’t know that at the time. We had warmed up a little bit and we were ready to see something else so we decided to go on the roof of the fort to take a look at what was up there. It was so cold that once we got out there and walked a few steps we were so cold that we went down the stairs as soon as we came up them. We found the real museum and looked around until it was time to get back on the boat.
We needed to get some laundry done, and so we stayed at The Residence Inn and had a nice night there.

The next day was short of bonus; Mom tracked down her old friend from Estes and turns out she lived a few hours away in Myrtle Beach. Betsy welcomed us into her home and we met got to meet Lulu, the dog and Rocky, the giant tortoise! Yes, they have a giant tortoise at their house!
We played with the animals and then when Betsy’s husband, Shreddy came home we went to dinner at a beachside restaurant, Bumms on the Beach. After dinner I went out to the beach to search for shells and found some of the best ones yet.
