Northern California

We finally made it to Califonia!  The road views immediately took a turn right after we crossed the state line.  On the Nevada side there were mountains in the distance and a whole lot of tumbleweeds and sand.  When we got to the CA boarder we were IN those mountains. There was green everywhere! The hills were full of a neon green color that made us feel like we were in the chocolate river candy room from Willi Wonka and The Chocolate Factory. There were trees everywhere and we had our windows rolled down all of the way, enjoying the warm wind on our faces.  We finally found the warm weather and yet all I could think of was how fun it would be to sled down those hills!  I guess I am from Estes!  We drove and drove for a while more and found a cute little campground to stay at on this beautiful lake in a town called Nice.

The funny part of it was that there was a street in the town called Happy Road. “I live in Nice, California on Happy Road”!  We settled in for the night and both slept like rocks. The next day, we woke up, unpluged, paid the lady and set off to Humboldt National Park, where we were hoping to see some Redwood Trees.  See we did!  After a 3 hour drive to the park,  we looked out our windows to see one of the most beautiful things we’d ever seen. The trees were all approximately 358 feet tall.

The Coast!

The Redwoods were amazing but it was getting dark and we wanted to find a small town in were we could set up the camper for another night. We were driving on a winding road and I had given up on looking out the window for a cute campground and was focusing on not throwing up. Mom interupted my thoughts and told me that she thought we would see the Pacific right around the corner. She was right!  We rounded the corner and there was the ocean!  We were both over the moon. I forgot about being sick and enjoyed the veiws of the scenic highway until we reached Fort Bragg.  We needed to grab a bite and find a campground to sleep at for the night. We breifly passed Steinaker State Park on the way into the town and we later ended up staying there for one night.  That night we were so tired that we didn’t even notice that we were sleeping so close to the shoreline that we could  hear the waves in the morning. After a wonderful  night’s sleep, we went to the beach and spent a few hours there. It was the bes† time I had had on the trip.
