Arizona

3/15/15

We drove and drove on the highway and I was so tired, that I fell asleep in the back almost minutes after we left the San Diego Airport after dropping Dad and Drew off. Mom woke me up in Yuma, Arizona and said that she had seen a sign for the Yuma Territorial State Prison Museum so we went on somewhat of a tour at the prison. It was a real experience of what it would have been like to be in prison in the middle of the desert; hot and miserable.

We got to Tucson to see Dad’s parents and started to make dinner.  Mom was so tired, that after a delicious meal, she went straight to bed.  I stayed at the other house for a while and then went to bed as well.

The next morning was slow, but once Susu got up (around 10:30) we went to the mall to get some errands done and do some shopping.  It was a wonderful day.

We were ready to move on so we left in the morning.  We drove for 2 hours until we reached Sun City West, the town where some other grandparents were living. We had a brief dinner, played a really fun game, and then took to our beds.

The next morning I helped Granddaddy make waffles and we had whipped cream and strawberries with them.  It was a delicious! After breakfast, Mom packed up the camper and she went up north to escape the heat for a couple nights.  Which meant that I got to be alone with my grandparents for a few nights. Can you say, ‘awesome?’ We baked snicker doodle blondie bars, which was a special treat, because there is no oven in the camper.  Later that day we went to see McFarland,USA.  It was really good and if you haven’t seen it yet and I would recommend it.  We stayed up pretty late and then finally went to bed.

Grandma and Granddaddy wanted to get some education into the visit so we got up early, got in the car and drove for a few hours to Jerome, Arizona.  Jerome was founder by James S. Douglas, the man who owned The Little Daisy Mining Co. He moved his company to the mountainous landscapes of northern AZ, and eventually, a town was created by the miners’ families and other people who needed jobs. The Little Daisy Mining Co soon struck silver and copper and the town had its big boom. The population was over 10,000 and the town was finally noticed. The mining of silver and copper was flowing well until The Little Daisy Mining Company shut down in 1938, and the town slowly began to disappear.  During its time, the town experienced landslides and fires. The population of the town in 2010 was only 444. Jerome now serves as a tourist location and a very small town.

We woke up the next morning and had a nice breakfast and then went to play mini golf and then went back to the house and took a little break. In the middle of our break, Mom showed up and we invited her to come swimming with us at 3:00 and then go to a movie, and after that we were quickly informed that it was 3:30. Grandma and I went over to the pool. We went back home at about 5:45, and left the minute we got there to try and get to Cinderella on time.  We spent another night in Sun City and then left the next morning.

We drove though the day and found ourselves at a beautiful campground in Show Low for the night and even got to walk around the lake before bed.  We were relieved to have escaped the heat of southern AZ and I was happy to be sleeping in Rosie again.

3/18/18(for Mom)                                              Mom spent her two nights to herself at her friends house and at a campground in Prescott. She got to go on a wonderful hike and she had a great time.
