Texas

3/25

We found ourselves in Fredericksburg for the first night in Texas. We camped at a KOA and had a wonderful dinner at an authentic Mexican restaurant. I really enjoyed it because of the live music. The next morning the local rooster gave the entire campground a wake up call!

Cockadoodledoo!

Mom’s brother, Uncle Craig, told us about a really pretty hike outside of Austin.  After a really bumpy ride we found the Enchanted Rock.

It was a huge pink rock!  It was great to scramble over the trails and see the views.
After our hike we traveled through the hill country and found amazing bluebonnets.

We rambled into Austin and found a campground just outside the city. We checked into our site and then headed into downtown Austin for some world famous BBQ at The Iron Works.

We hurried over to the bridge to catch the 1.5 million bats that fly out at dusk to find mosquitoes for food.  It was absolutely amazing! If you’re planning on going to Austin soon, you should put that on your list.

We spent the night at the state park and left in morning to head towards San Antonio.

We got into the city in the morning and quickly found a place to drop Rosie off for an oil change.  Downtown we headed to the two most recommended things in San Antonio; the Alamo and the Riverwalk. Using Mom’s internal compass, we wandered  around for a few minutes until we were told we were walking in the opposite direction we were supposed to be going. We turned around and walked until we reached the tour boats. We had a fantastic time on the river and we learned a lot about San Antonio in the most scenic way possible.

We ate lunch at one of the oldest family restaurants in the city.  After we were filled to the brim we walked most of it off at the Alamo. We got to see the two original buildings that still remained and we learned a whole bunch about the fort.

We picked up Rosie and pointed her east, continuing on I-10. We saw the skyline of Houston at dusk as the city came to life with lights. We stopped in Baytown for a restful night at a hotel.
