It was nice sleeping in a hotel so we took our time leaving. Recommended by friends and family we decided to stay a few nights in Lafayette. We found a Residence Inn and settled in. Soon after, we headed to downtown Lafayette for Downtown Alive; a big party with Cajun food and live music.

We had a great time dancing and experiencing Louisiana. We settled in at the hotel and I slept well, glad to know we finally found a hotel with the Disney Channel.

We took the next morning slow and then we headed out to Acadiana Village to learn about Cajun history. It was really neat because the heritage center found most of the old Cajun homesteads from all around LA and put them in what was kind of like a historical outdoor mall. We learned a lot about the Cajuns and we even got to see numerous turtles!

Vermillionville brought us lunch and a open pick circle of Cajun music. Beautiful sounds and sights in an old barn.

We went to learn about America’s largest swamp at the Atchafalayla welcome center. Next, we added on to the experience and took a boat tour on the swamp itself. Similar to the awe at Carlsbad Caverns, we couldn’t believe we were actually there. We glided on a slow motorboat and went directly into the swamp and got to experience what it was like to be the first to see something; the ecosystem was almost untouched by humans. We even got to see some alligators!

Dinner at the hotel and another peaceful night.

On our last slow morning, we grabbed some hot beignets across the street and hit the road to Avery Island to see the Tabasco factory. You could smell it from all over the island even though they weren’t even bottling that day.

Such a peaceful place with beautiful trees and flowers. We finished the tour and headed uptown for a crawfish boil at family friends, Matt and Amy’s. Sandy, Matt’s mom, was there and we had a great time catching up and talking with everyone. Matt walked us though the process of a crawfish boil and it was amazing. It was so cool to see each step. We stood around the table and ate crawfish and boiled veggies until we were about to topple over.

It was really fun to catch up but we finally left, eager to wash our hair and cloths!!!

We packed up Rosie the next morning and headed east on the scenic highway, “To New Orleans and Beyond!” Once we got to the city, we walked around he French Quarter. We found po’boys at a highly recommended place and beignets (again) at Café Du Monde.

We were eager to camp again so we continued east….
Awesome sauce, girls!
